Music

Like so many areas of creativity music is limited only by the imagination and ability of those making it. Unfortunately, many of those involved are extremely limited in these areas, particularly the former. With so much music already in existence being truly original is difficult. However, that is no excuse for the appalling amount of lame rip-offs that account for so much of the music industry. In the most commercial sphere it is 'natural' that if a particular group or type of music is successful numerous clones will appear. What is so sad is that people accept this tripe, instead of demanding something more challenging.

So many great bands and musicians lurk beneath the bland surface of music. People who are either trying something a bit different or reinterpreting old stuff in their own way. It is these performers who should be heard. Given a wider exposure they might broaden people's tastes, hopefully opening the public up to a bigger world of music. It is difficult to direct people to new and different music when the music media is so pathetically limited. One of the few magazine's which offers a different perspective is The Sound Projector. Written by music enthusiasts it is always interesting and informative. Articles and reviews have no vested interest other than to encourage readers to listen to the music.
